This abstract photograph captures the vivid, radiant bands of saturated color that form along the fringes of the geothermal hot springs in Yellowstone National Park. 

As the hot water trickles out and spreads across the surface, it gradually cools, creating distinct ecological niches to form. Heat-loving pigmented microbes produce zones of rich jewel-toned mats as these specialized organisms thrive in extreme temperature and conditions.
